Credit Card Debt Help in the UAE

Credit-card minimum payments can become harder to sustain when balances, charges and several payment dates build up at the same time.

Understanding the position

What this route can mean

Card debt may be one part of a wider affordability problem, particularly where loans, overdrafts and essential household costs compete for the same income.

Consolidebt looks at the combined position rather than treating each minimum payment as an isolated figure.

Where appropriate and authorised, we may discuss available repayment, rescheduling or settlement options with relevant creditors.

A structured approach

How we would look at the situation

01

Map every commitment

List cards, loans, balances, approximate payments and account status.

02

Assess the combined impact

Review repayments alongside income and essential household expenditure.

03

Consider suitable routes

Compare creditor options with any genuinely appropriate refinancing route.

04

Explain the trade-offs

Review payment, term, total cost and credit-history implications.

The detail that matters

A clearer view of the available route

01

When card debt becomes a wider affordability problem

A single card balance may look manageable while the combined minimum payments across several cards and loans are not. Revolving balances can also reduce slowly when interest or profit and charges continue.

  • Minimum payments absorb money needed for essentials
  • Balances stay broadly unchanged
  • Cash advances or one facility cover another payment
  • More than one due date is missed or paid late
  • A lender or collection agency is contacting you
02

Can I seek help before missing a payment?

Yes. You do not need to be in arrears. If contractual payments are becoming difficult, an early review can help distinguish a temporary cash-flow issue from a broader affordability problem.

Consolidebt does not tell customers to deliberately stop paying. Continue acting on obligations and urgent correspondence unless you receive appropriate advice or an agreed change from the creditor.

03

What may happen after missed payments

The creditor may contact you, apply contractual interest, profit, fees or charges, restrict the account, report arrears to the credit information agency, appoint a collection agent or consider legal action. The exact steps depend on the account and creditor.

  • Keep copies of notices and deadlines
  • Do not ignore court or enforcement documents
  • Ask the creditor for a current balance and account status
  • Do not share passwords, PINs or security codes with anyone
04

Potential card restructuring or rescheduling

A creditor may consider converting or restructuring card debt into a different repayment arrangement, but this is not automatic. A proposal should reflect the wider financial position and the creditor remains responsible for its decision.

05

Several cards and loans: an illustration

Imagine two cards, a personal loan and an overdraft, each with a separate payment. Looking only at the largest card could produce a proposal that leaves the other three commitments unaffordable. The assessment instead considers the combined monthly pressure before exploring account-specific options.

06

07

AECB and credit-history implications

Missed or reduced payments, arrears, revised arrangements and settlements may affect information reported to Al Etihad Credit Bureau and future access to credit. Consolidebt does not provide credit-repair services or promise that reporting will be removed.

Official information

Official consumer information

CBUAE Consumer Protection Standards set requirements for Licensed Financial Institutions on arrears communication, fair treatment of financially distressed consumers and credit-information consequences. These provisions do not guarantee a concession or prevent lawful collection activity.

Important limitations

  • Interest, profit, fees and charges may continue unless the creditor agrees otherwise.
  • Collection activity may not stop immediately.
  • Missed or reduced payments and settlements may affect credit history.
  • A lower monthly payment may result in a longer term or higher total cost.
